UPDATE: April 20, 2017 @11:40 a.m.

As police continue to investigate yesterday's tragic accident that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old female, local news sources are reporting that she was a student at the Midland Freshman campus. Authorities believe the girl had possibly missed the bus after school, her usual mode of transportation, and was heading home when she was struck by oncoming traffic.

According to a local news source, the driver in the outer lane on Interstate 20 was able to see the young female enter the highway, but the drivers in the other lanes were not able to see her, thus, hitting her as she entered the roadway.

The name of the victim had not been released, but Midland ISD released the following statement: "The Midland ISD family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our students. The Midland Freshman students, faculty and staff who knew the student so well require our attention at this time. Crisis counselors are on campus today providing support and will remain there as long as necessary."

The young female's family had been looking for their daughter at the time the incident as they had began to wonder why she wasn't home. The family positively identified their daughter at the scene of the accident.
