Man in Toyota Pickup Killed in Fiery Crash

A Toyota truck erupted into flames after the truck slammed into the rear of a fracking rig as a result of being rear-ended by a Peterbilt. One man, the driver of the Toyota truck, was killed.

According to Texas DPS, Gerry Don Rudolph was stopped in the eastbound lane of U.S. 380 waiting to make a left turn onto U.S. 83 northbound in a fracking rig. Stephen Lloyd Fitts was stopped behind Rudolph’s fracking rig in his Toyota. Meanwhile, a third vehicle, a 2015 Peterbilt truck tractor pulling a trailer, approached the two vehicles from behind and did not stop. The collision pushed the Toyota into the back of the stopped-to-turn 2007 International truck tractor towing a semi-trailer.

The Toyota burst into flames.

The location of the crash:

The driver of the first vehicle suffered incapacitating injuries. The Toyota driver, Fitts, was killed. The driver of the Peterbilt was treated at the Aspermont hospital and released.

The crash happened at 1:33 p.m. The weather was cloudy and the road conditions dry, DPS reported.
