Police: Driver Who Hit Power Pole Sunday Morning was Drunk

 

On Sunday at 10:20 a.m., San Angelo Police responded to the 2700 block of W Loop 306 for a single vehicle crash.   Upon arrival, Officers located a red 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt passenger car on its side against a utility pole.  Officers located the driver, and only occupant, standing near the vehicle with no visible injuries.   

According to the report, the driver, Omar Maldonado, 26, said he was on the Loop 306 on-ramp from Knickerbocker when he lost control of his vehicle and overcorrected to the right.   Maldonado’s vehicle traveled through the median, and across the frontage road.  The vehicle then rolled into the utility pole causing the outage.   The power loss affected many residences, businesses, and traffic lights in the area.

During the traffic investigation, Maldonado showed signs of intoxication.   After further investigation Maldonado was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.  Officers also discovered Maldonado was driving without a driver’s license.  Maldonado was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.
