Construction for New Tom Green County Jail on Track to Completion

SAN ANGELO, TX – Earlier today, Tom Green County Commissioners learned that the new county jail project is on time and within budget, two months into construction.

Facilities Maintenance Director Don Killam told the court that the construction pad for the new jail is complete and subcontractors are trenching and installing sewer lines.

The next step is for electrical subcontractors to trench and install underground electrical lines.

Killam further explained the the two entrance and exit roadways have been marked. The public entrance will access the new jail site directly off U.S. Highway 67, just past the entrance to the Roy K. Robb men’s detention facility.

The second entrance will connect off Tractor Trail and go behind the Roy K. Robb facility.  This second entrance is planned for officers with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s office to transport inmates going to and from the county courthouse.

The $51 million project will have 328 beds with room for expansion.  The County will also use 288 beds in the current jail downtown for a total of 616 beds.

Construction is expected to take 22 to 24 months, with the construction slated to wrap up in mid-2019.  White Construction Company, out of Austin, is the Construction Manager at Risk for the project.

for the 4h shooting club to be able to utilize the land the county politicians let them use. Hopefully these kids don't have to wait 22 -24 months to use this area again. But then again will there be any land available for them to use after the jail and parking lot is completed.
