Family Dog Dies in Grape Creek RV Fire

At 3:18 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to an RV park at 8201 Sunflower Ave. for a report of an RV trailer on fire.

The first Grape Creek fire engine arrived within three minutes of the initial 911 call, GCVFD Fire Chief Jose Rivera stated. The volunteers found an RV trailer fully engulfed with heavy fire and smoke. Another RV trailer parked next to the RV with the fire experienced heavy smoke and heat damage, and was beginning to catch fire.

The exact location of the fire:

Grape Creek volunteers chose to attack the fire on the neighboring RV trailer and surrounding trees first.

The RV trailer originally on fire was a complete loss. The owners of both RV trailers were not home at the time. There were no injuries except one family dog that perished in one of the RV trailers.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown but is being ruled accidental. The San Angelo Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene to provide assistance to the people involved.

The Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Department provided water support to the Grape Creek units.
