County-Wide Burn Ban to be Temporarily Lifted Until Sunday

During Tuesday morning’s County Commissioners’ Court, Precinct 4 Commissioner, Bill Ford, suggested that the county wide burn ban be temporarily lifted in order to alleviate the build up of residential garbage in rural areas.

Ford stated that he had been contacted by several Tom Green County residents who wished to conduct a burn, and in order to ensure that there was no pressing safety concern, he consulted with local area Volunteer Fire Departments to ask their opinions regarding a temporary lift. According to Ford, the general consensus from the VFDs was that a temporary lift is acceptable with the contention that residents exercise caution and wait to conduct any burns until the weekend. This way, the VFDs will be readily available to render aid if needed. The Commissioners agreed, and passed a motion to temporarily lift the burn ban.

Precinct 3 Commissioner, Rick Bacon, also noted that if any other burns are to take place before this weekend or if residents will be burning materials other than garbage, due diligence is appreciated.

“Be very careful,” Bacon warned.

The burn ban will be lifted until Sunday evening, Sept. 26 at 8:00 p.m.
