Gas Leak Evacuates Residents in Christoval

A crew working on the new water tower in Christoval hit an old gas valve which runs natural gas  within the past hour, causing the evacuation of residents surrounding 2nd St. and Denny St.

West Texas Gas (WTG) is in charge of that line and has been notified of the situation, that crew is currently enroute from Menard; their estimated time of arrival is one hour.

Lt. Christina Lopez of the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department said that some citizens have been evacuated from their homes.

“In the meantime we’ve got deputies who have created a perimeter in the area, residents are evacuating the immediate area, and being told to go to The Community Center,” Lopez said.

Commissioner Bill Ford is also on the scene and says that it is a very low pressure leak, and that there is no immediate danger at this point.

We will update this story as it happens.

UPDATE
