Grape Creek Cleanup Day Planned for Saturday

A cleanup day for the county is being held in Grape Creek this Saturday. Two 40 yard roll off containers donated by Texas Disposal Systems will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for residents to throw away garbage. San Angelo Friends of the Environment will also be available to pick up appliances such as computers and microwaves that can’t normally be thrown away. The event will be held on Grape Creek Road in Grape Creek across from Allsup’s.

“It’s just an effort to try to help the folks out there after the flooding that we had along North Concho,” Commissioner Rick Bacon said. “I felt like it would be a good idea to put some dumpsters out there so people could get rid of some of their stuff and kind of clean up the area.”

Bacon claimed that this location was chosen because a many people living in rural areas may not have services or facilities to get rid of their trash. Furthermore, it’s held in a centralized location so residents of Water Valley or Carlsbad don’t have to drive all the way out to the landfill.

Bacon stressed that the event is open to everyone, not just flood victims. Once the dumpsters are full, the event will be over, but Bacon said he hopes to take care of a lot of trash before then.

“I just felt like that after the flooding, it’d be a good idea to have something in the local area to help them with,” Bacon said. “We’re trying to be good stewards in helping people because I’ve realized a lot of people probably have stuff out there that they can’t just throw in the trash.”
