At-Large Jim Bass Ford Burglar Eludes Police Again

Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies thought they found the Jim Bass Burglar Tuesday evening. They gathered near what was heard over the radio as suspect Bradley Lynn Bishop’s mother’s home in Veribest, about five miles east of San Angelo.

Sheriff’s deputies and San Angelo Police (SAPD) officers performed a joint operation at the house just off Sykes Circle. SAPD covered the back of the house as deputies covered the front. A few tense moments ensued.

In the end, the operation came up empty. Bishop remains at-large.

Bishop was arrested early Sunday morning as a suspect who police said broke into Jim Bass Ford. Motion alarms inside the car dealership were tripped shortly before midnight Saturday night. SAPD responded and were conducting a customary walk-around when a second motion alarm was tripped. Police implemented a 24-acre perimeter around the dealership and found Bishop in the service department parking lot. Shortly thereafter, an ambulance was dispatched to the scene and transported Bishop to Shannon Medical Center. Doctors requested that Bishop remain admitted for another day. Early Sunday evening, Bishop slipped away from the hospital, departing with IVs still attached to his body. Medical waste and a bloodied hospital wristband were found where Bishop freed himself of hospital IVs and wristband and continued his flight.

There is an active warrant for Bishop’s arrest. SAPD said he is wanted for Burglary of a Building and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1.
