Generous Donor Offers to Match Contributions to Athletic Scholarship Fund

In recognition of Angelo State University’s former basketball coach and retired Athletic Director Phil George, an anonymous donor has offered to match donations up to a total of $20,000 to the Phil and Toddy George Endowment for Athletic Scholarships. The donation match will be in effect until Jan. 1.

The George scholarships are awarded to junior or senior student athletes who demonstrate strength in academic achievement and have demonstrated participation in campus and community activities.

ASU also will honor George during a ceremony at the Rams’ basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 6, to commemorate the renaming of Varsity Drive on the ASU campus to Phil George Drive.

For more information or to donate to the scholarship endowment, contact Jamie Akin, executive director of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, at 325-942-2116 or [email protected], or go online to www.angelo.edu/giving.
