U.S. Chamber Awards 4-Star Accreditation to San Angelo Chamber of Commerce

The United States Chamber of Commerce has awarded the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce 4-Star Accreditation status for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.

“Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber Executive Director of Political Affairs and Federation Relations.  “We applaud this organization for advancing the principles of free enterprise.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs in nine areas that include communications, finance, human resources, program development, governance, government affairs, benchmarking and technology. This extensive review takes six-to-nine months to complete.

“We’re very proud of our accreditation status, especially considering that only 3% of the 7,000-plus chambers in the United States achieve this level,” said San Angelo Chamber President Phil Neighbors.  “This is a tribute to the support and involvement of our members and our volunteer leadership, as well as to my outstanding coworkers.”

The San Angelo Chamber was first accredited in 1992 and has maintained its status by applying for re-accreditation every five years as required by the U.S. Chamber.  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
