Patchy Fog May Have Been a Factor in U.S. 67 Crash Friday Morning

Fog may have been a factor in a major vehicle crash on U.S. 67 northbound near the intersection of the Old Ballinger Highway at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning. Fog is lifting with the morning sun but continues to be think in patches when traveling up the highway to the crash scene.

A gold Mercury Mountaineer and a Ford heavy duty pickup operated by the Concho Valley Electric Co-Op were involved. The side of the Mountaineer was damaged in a collision with the Ford. The Ford is off the road.

We do not know if there are injuries. However, a San Angelo Fire Dept. ambulance left the scene just before 9 a.m. without lights or sirens.

East Concho VFD, Tom Green County Sheriff's deputies and the DPS are working the scene.

Traffic is slowed to one lane northbound.

Update 11:32 a.m.

The driver in the Mountaineer was eastbound on the Old Ballinger Highway. She crossed U.S. 67. and made a U-turn to head back west. During the U-turn, the Mountaineer entered the Ford F-350’s path-of-travel. The F-350 was northbound on U.S. 67 in the left lane. The Ford T-boned the Mountaineer, sending the F-350 into the median between the north and southbound lanes of 67.

The Mountaineer traveled approximately 40 yards and into the northbound lanes of traffic as a result of the impact.

The driver of the Mountaineer was sent to Shannon Medical Center with unknown injuries. The driver of the Ford was unhurt. No citations were given at the scene. Trooper Jessica Springer continues her investigation at the hospital where she will interview the Mountaineer driver. The question on everyone’s mind at the scene was, was fog a factor?
