Political Correctness: A Social Cancer

The Washington Post, in a recent bid to join the chorus of hypersensitive, politically correct frivolity, has arbitrarily resolved to strip the Washington Redskins of their name.

On Aug. 22, the editorial board of the Post announced that they were pining away for "the National Football League to catch up with thoughtful opinion and common decency", and subsequently decided to forgo any future use of "the slur" (Redskins) in print.

Not to be outdone in this pissing match of sacrosanctity, The New York Daily news decided to do the same, in addition to replacing the team’s logo. The longstanding, inoffensive depiction of a Native American will now be replaced with a circular maroon image which contains two vertical white lines on either side of a yellow centered one -- a true testament to the social cancer which is "political correctness".

Political correctness is counterproductive and disastrous when applied among a (presumably) free society. Its origins and ideology are based in the Communist and Marxist premise of the individual existing solely for the benefit of the collective, rather than a means to their own prosperity and well-being.

In a politically-correct climate, nothing is organic. Everything is agenda-driven and orchestrated by totalitarian forces, with the broken spirits of their subjects being an extension thereof. Reality is shaped by those who stand to profit from the ignorant masses, with propaganda and outright lies. History's events are manipulated and revised, or sometimes altogether erased. Pariahs and icons alike are manufactured, as is public opinion, which is adroitly and progressively spoonfed to the hungry lapdogs, whose fervor for devouring prepackaged bundles of B.S. is only rivaled by their zeal for vomiting it back at each other.

We're consoled by the self-appointed speech monitors, that being politically correct is for the sake of civil discourse and to prevent the marginalization of the disadvantaged or oppressed. It's touted as an evolution of human interaction or progressive thinking, however as language shapes and defines the ideas, thoughts, and actions of humanity, the constraints and artifice of politically correct speech has done little more than incite needless chaos and conflict.

Below are four mainstays in the practical application of politically correct ideology:

  1. Expropriation: As with tangible and personal property...opportunity and social standing can as well be expropriated. The shameless patronization known as "affirmative action" which has become standard practice in college admissions, as well as negotiating business contracts, is a prime example, as it deprives and redistributes on the grounds of favoritism rather than merit.

If political correctness has knighted you a bona fide victim or you can nonchalantly lay claim to some lost war or social injustice in the distant past, the world probably owes you something. You can't spell "entitlements", but your incessant, child-like demands show you certainly deserve them. You've got the social skills and intellectual drive of a yard mole -- but hey, the front office isn't "colorful" enough!

  2. Deconstruction and redefinition: Political correctness systematically deconstructs the definitions and aspects of daily life as we know it. It then affixes and attributes its own desired labels and axioms, predominantly neutral in nature and comprised with as few distinguishing or unique characteristics as possible.

Gender neutrality is one example of political correctness gone wild: Roles essential and inherent to the each of the sexes are seen as social constructs in need of overcoming, as citing differences between men and women is seen as flat out "sexist"!

"Manning up" implies women are weak, perverts are just "sexually dysfunctional", pet owners aren't as caring as "pet guardians", 250-pound women are "curvy", Easter eggs become "spring spheres", "Merry Christmas" isn't inclusive enough and Santa Claus should no longer boisterously belt out "Ho, ho, ho!", rather deliver a calm "Ha, ha, ha!" -- lest the poor children frighten easily and/or assume he's absolutely wild about hookers.....or (I'm sorry) "sex workers".

Comedians tell a joke tonight, and are publicly apologizing for it by tomorrow. A person voices an unpopular political/social view on the internet, and by next week they're cleaning out their desk at work. If you have the ability to form tastes, passions, prejudices or unorthodox viewpoints, you, too, are at risk from something as trivial as getting kicked off of social media sites to losing your livelihood or possible incarceration. Unlearn, recondition and reprogram...or else.

The "erosion of free speech"? No, say the word police -- it's "adhering to speech codes".

  3. Victim fabrication: In a culture of political correctness, those who participate in identity politics are championed. Culturally and racially-based interest groups who band together in the name of collective victimhood almost always find a shoulder to cry on. They're the conditioned professional victims who cite alleged systematic oppression and discrimination as an excuse to live free of accountability. They're always too brown-skinned, too gay, too female, too religious or too obese to get a fair shake in life or know right from wrong. Every personal shortcoming or indiscretion is the result of anyone's character flaws and ignorance but their own.

The criminal commits crimes because he's "disadvantaged", litigious homosexuals readily cite "homophobia" and disgruntled women will conveniently associate personal failure with "sexism". An aversion to the fanatic's heavy handed religiosity is an "attack on his faith" and merely suggesting that an overweight person exercise and eat healthier is "fat shaming".

The aforementioned are a vital asset to the P.C. crowd, as public opinion and government policy, in accordance with political correctness, are dependent on various people from any of these groups throwing regular pity parties or performing dramatic public displays of martyrdom.

Each group has different conspiracy theories of why they're the objects of persecution, as well as differing agendas and methods for allocating blame. They all have one thing in common, however -- the inherent belief that they can do no wrong and should be generously compensated for the lack of preferential treatment they all know they deserve.

  4. Delusory ratiocination: Self deceit is compulsory and conducive to a politically correct milieu. We're asked to transform ourselves into blank slates by disregarding experience, forgoing instinct and becoming all-around poor judges of character.

We gauge our level of comfort by assessing the weather and dressing accordingly. We know the common outcome of getting too close to fire or placing our hand near the mouth of a snarling dog. Oddly however, with the most dangerous things on Earth (other human beings), we're expected to display nothing less than blind acceptance and unconditional consideration until something like a stolen wallet or bullet to the head suggests otherwise. Racial/cultural profiling is wrong -- even if it brings us that much closer to personal safety or a truthful conclusion.

Stereotypes are also discouraged by any means, and the person who mentions them in jest or casual conversation is always seen as less favorable than the living, breathing caricatures who reinforce these stereotypes on a daily basis: Gangsters don't beget gangsters -- the evil bourgeois and their astute observations do. The stereotype becomes seen as self-perpetuating and therefore bears the burden of blame, rather than the culture who brought it into being.

This is a pivotal moment in time where we either truly own the right to free speech, or let its constraints and confusing ambiguity render life itself meaningless. Political correctness doesn't concern itself with truth, rather arbitrary convenience. It's built upon privileged lies and chimerical concepts of equality, which can only exist in a world of programmed automatons.

Political correctness has no place in our schools, because those who aren't educated in freedom will never learn to cherish it, apply it or afford it to others. Political correctness has no place in the arts, as it is the antithesis of unfettered thought and expression. It undeniably has no place in government, as our government should consist of elected public servants -- not manipulative, tyrannical despots. The right to free expression should be as imperative as the air we breathe, as the lack of both has the potential to suffocate the very life out of us all.

Lares....what a great literary piece. But (:)), you need to dumb down ( I mean improve) your vocabulary so the illiterate ( oops socially and educated challenged) have a equal opportunity to be angered by your honesty ( oops insensitivity). Seriously, this was a well thought out and written article. I suspect it will gather support pro and con as this is the state of our current climate. And regardless of absence of research or expertise everyone's opinion is the same value. As evidenced Even at high levels of journalism..a pundit is an expert in all things if they have an opinion, albeit no practical experience or authentic facts. Good luck in your future articles....looking forward to reading them.
There are far too often people who rely too heavily on the thesaurus as they attempt to convey their message. This ends up resulting in overwrought sentences that block, rather than illuminate, the writer’s meaning. I suspect even the highly educated visitors to this website will be rubbing their temples after this mess.
Right on, Lares. You're a lone voice crying in the wilderness. You need a bullhorn and a tour bus, dude. The Great Unwashed could benefit from being baptized in this kind of high-octane logic and insight. Keep posting. I'm an instant fan.
Wonderful commentary. The blank slate has been created by education. You can lose a generation in the school systems. Hopefully there are enough people left that agree with you to get the next generation.

The idea was rejected by main communist cause they want to promote a workers state directly,Which is a dictatorship as a state around the wealthy and big business,The minority member wanted to disguises it as a promotion of tolerance through censorship, cause they felt it would spread faster,So these communist quit the main group and organized their own. After the jimmy Carter change the democrat party and back stabbing conservative bill Clinton took over,he exploited political correctness,The idea was to pretend to be for the oppress to manipulate them to vote for their party,By convincing them that it was free speech and not controlling the mainstream that was causing their oppression.Forcing people to except them, not only just obligate those not to commit an act of murder and discrimination, but, they must be friends of the minorities or else!would cure these main streamers of their bigotry,What bull! The corporate commerce and arts including holy wood took advantage of this in an attempted not to lose money .Hollywood lost a lot of money appeasing conservative Christians in the thirties .Getting minorities to buy their product don't promise that they wont lose money ,As a result Disney wont release song of the south .Turner classic movie wont show any more third Reich cinema.their current Jewish experience on film is politically correct and worse not one single Yiddish film including in there month special,Yet they will show Birth of a Nation Double standard!;Except for what they repeat.Classic films national and intentional are treated like porn.By the mainstream distributors,Opportunist take advantage and sell the same movies on DVD by exploiting the desegregation affects fro profit,in the same way sex in entertainment is used .Buy this !this is sinful or buy this cause Hollywood or the Jewish or the families of world war 2 veterans or republicans or demopublicans don't want you to watch this. What away to treat bad history ,unethical,In a free society a person should be able to say thing that they might be wrong about against our our democracy and human rights to counter act it with expression of defense ,The conservatives exploit political correctness to get people on their side to convince others that they have the right to murder and discriminate people that the hate and stopping them political correctness . They also try to convince people that political correctness is criticizing their ideology .No! debate is a part of free speech. The right for Archie Bunkers to be wrong is a right ,except their actions,Use speech with speech against those that are racist , antisemitic .but, don't throw them jail if the haven't committed an act of murder .Like conservative censorship politically correct censorship is morally illegal and technically a crime,It's not part of free speech ,but suppressed speech
