Avenue N Shutdown Due to Rollover Crash Wednesday Morning

A rollover crash between a Honda Accord and a Jeep Compass has shutdown Avenue N at the intersection of Jackson Street just before 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A black Jeep Compass was northbound on Jackson Street intending to continue straight across the intersection with Avenue N. This crossing requires the driver to turn slightly left to remain on the road. The Honda Accord was eastbound on West Avenue N.

The Accord driver stated to police that he had pecan tree sap on his windshield and had just turned his windshield wipers on. The lack of visibility led to the Accord driver not seeing, and then running the red light at the Jackson intersection.

The Accord crashed into the Jeep, impacting it on the side. The force of the impact on the lower portion of the Jeep and the Jeep’s higher center of gravity caused the Jeep to rollover on its side.

The driver of the Jeep could not get out of the vehicle. The fire department cut out the front window and rescued her from the back of the car. She was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

San Angelo Police Officer Ed Hunger, the traffic investigator, said that the Accord driver was cited for running the red light.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m.
