Early Morning Fire at Stadium Park

Just after midnight early Wednesday morning, a 911 call announced a structure fire on the 2100 block of Knickerbocker Road at the Stadium Park Shopping Center.

Upon arrival, the San Angelo Fire Department found that the awning of Grigsby's store had been destroyed by fire, leaving nothing but the rich smell of burnt nylon and smoke. But there were no visible flames. The fire department searched for hotspots with their thermal cameras.

The fire was called in by a someone passing by who stated that all she saw was the flickering of flames as she drove by.

The damage to the building appeared to be only cosmetic and Fire Marshall Thomas Truett stated that due to the design of the building, there seemed to be no risk to the main structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation
