Christmas at Fort Concho Promises to be Biggest Ever

Christmas at Fort Concho looks to be bigger and better than ever this year.

The first major change occurring to the normal round of events is a kick off concert with Michael Martin Murphy’s Cowboy Christmas on Dec. 5 in the Fort Concho Stables.

Tickets go on sale Nov. 15 and are $25, and the show is expected to sell out, so buy early if you want to make sure you see the country music legend.

Friday, Dec. 6 at 3:00 p.m. is the beginning of the Christmas at Fort Concho three-day affair, and it will start off with a boom as the cannons fired by the living history members of Fort Concho signify the passage of time every hour on the hour.

Merchants will be set up and selling goods, Sulters and soldiers will be milling about, tours will be given, and everyone’s favorite fair food will be at the food court.

Video below: Fort Concho re-enactors are so excited about Christmas at Fort Concho, and so are these guys who will be firing their guns every hour on the hour:

Also, there will be many attractions for kids—allowing mom and dad to do some holiday shopping without little Billy—like the Pancake Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Around the World, Miss Birdie’s Tea Party, Indian Lore and crafts, Santa’s Workshop, and Boot Camp, where children can learn to march and drill, as well as sample rations and take home a souvenir.

Many re-enactors will be present to give folks a taste of what life looked like in the late 1800s, with many authentic and replicated period pieces.

Entertainment from high school and ASU bands will be present throughout the event, providing free music for those taking a break from shopping.

The Concho Cowboy Company will be staging gunfights for the public’s entertainment, and there will be a vintage baseball game set up by living history organizations, playing by the old rules and regulations.
