Saturday night welcomed Red Steagall & The Boys to Fort Concho. It was the first ever West Texas Cowboy Gathering benefit for West Texas Counseling & Guidance.
The event kicked off at 11 a.m., with performances by T. Gozney & The Old Hat Band, Amber Digby, and Billy Mata. The West Texas Boys Ranch wagon’s were set up and food was provided by Fiddle Fire.
“The counseling center really needed a signature fundraiser,” Terri Holland, Director of Community Relations at West Texas Counseling & Guidance said of her organization.
Holland said that for the past couple of years she has been envisioning this event. San Angelo has never had a “Cowboy Gathering" and the idea seemed the perfect fit to raise funds for West Texas Counseling & Guidance.
“I think it is a win-win because it of course helps us...but then also we brought in a lot of people from out of town,” Holland said of the West Texas Cowboy Gathering.
People from Canada, New Mexico, and all over the state of Texas came down to enjoy the event held at Fort Concho.
The day ended with a dance in The Stables and a final performance by Red Steagall & The Boys.
Holland said, “We want to make it a two-day event next year and add more entertainment and vendors.”
The West Texas Cowboy Gathering benefitted the West Texas Counseling & Guidance’s client assistance fund. The nonprofit organization offers free counseling services to the Rust Street Ministry and Wesley Soup Kitchen. It is now branching out to Brady, Menard, Mertzon, Ozona and Sonora.
